India's aluminum exports to the United States may decrease
February 11, 2025
Industry executives and government sources said on Monday that India's aluminum exports to the United States are likely to decline due to the impact of U.S. tariffs, prompting producers to look to other markets such as Europe. The US is India's largest aluminium export market. Executives and sources said the U.S. measures would weigh on Indian aluminum exports to the United States, affecting the profitability of Indian producers.
India exported 200,000 tonnes of aluminium worth 78.3 billion rupees ($894.4 million) to the US in the year to March 2024, according to Indian government data. India is the world's second largest producer of primary aluminium. Unlike aluminium companies, Indian steelmakers are not expected to face major setbacks as they have smaller supplies to the US.
