Japan aluminum premium declined in the second quarter of 2025 due to weak demand

April 7, 2025
Japan's premium for P1020 aluminum in the second quarter of 2025 is set at $182 per ton (based on the LME spot price), down $46 from the previous quarter, ending an upward trend that has continued since the second quarter of 2024. Suppliers initially offered higher prices than the previous quarter, with most offering more than $245 per tonne, but due to weak domestic demand in Japan and changes in trade flows triggered by new US tariffs, buyers managed to push prices down to $182 per tonne before finally sealing the deal in late March.
