The EU has a trade deficit of 11.1 billion euros in aluminum imports and exports in 2024

In 2024, the EU imports of aluminium and its aluminium products amounted to 29.5 billion euros and exports amounted to 18.4 billion euros, with a trade deficit of 11.1 billion euros. Compared to 2019, imports of aluminium and its aluminium products increased by 29.9% (+ 6.8 billion euros) and exports by 21.3% (+ 3.2 billion euros), but its imports fell by 6.2% and exports by 1.7%, mainly due to the increase in value driven by higher prices.
In terms of imports, Norway and China are the EU's largest import partners for aluminium and aluminium products in 2024, with imports reaching 4.4 billion euros (15.0% of total imports) and 3.9 billion euros (13.1%) respectively. Followed by Turkey (2.8 billion euros; 9.4%), Iceland (imports €2.1 billion; 7.3 per cent) and Switzerland (€1.7 billion; 5.8%).
Among them, imports from Iceland and Turkey increased the most compared to 2019.
In terms of exports, in 2024, the UK was the EU's largest export destination for aluminium and aluminium products, with exports of 3.7 billion euros (19.9% of total exports); Followed by the United States (exports of 2.6 billion euros, 14.1%) and Switzerland (exports of 2.4 billion euros, 12.8%); Turkey ranked fourth (exports of €900 million, or 5.0%); India was fifth (exports of €800 million, or 4.5%).
Among them, exports to India and Turkey increased the most compared with 2019.
